An Introduction to the Society

Founded in 1981, Letchworth Model Railway Society is one of the leading model railway clubs in Eastern England. We are based at Standalone Farm in Letchworth, and meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings between 7:30pm and 10:00pm .

The Club’s OO scale layout “Radlingdon” is an exhibition layout and is modeled on the real station of Radley south of Oxford on the former Great Western mainline with a branch line to Abingdon.  It made its debut appearance at the Society’s 2011 exhibition.

The Club’s O scale layout industrial layout “Mulldale” has been to many exhibitions.

An N gauge layout is in the course of construction.

Visitors to Standalone Farm (an educational farm open to the public from March to October) can run the outdoor G scale railway “Standalone Junction” which members built and maintain.

Our annual exhibition,  which attracts in the order of 1,000 visitors, takes place in July, see the exhibition page for more details. Layouts are sourced from around the country and has  excellent trade support. This has proven to be a popular venue and worth a visit whatever your interest.

Members have a wide range of expertise and new members have joined the Club in order to gain advice and experience from this wealth of knowledge . The Society adapts to the needs of the membership and this results in the involvement of many members, as teachers, advisors or learners. The activities are always evolving and often include social activities within or outside the club house.

New members are always welcome and if you would like to visit please contact the Society via the contact us page.

We are proud to be associated with the Chiltern Model Railway Association and the Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group.
